In August 50 members enjoyed a gloriously sunny day out to see “Barnum” at the Chichester Festival Theatre. CFT is celebrating its’ 50th Birthday this year. The main theatre is undergoing a major redevelopment so this year’s special summer season is being held in a circus tent erected “In the Park” adjoining CFT. This massive structure is the perfect setting for a musical following the imagination and dreams of Phineas T Barnum, America’s greatest showman. The singing and dancing were superb with excellent special effects to give us a glimpse into life of the Greatest Show on Earth!
We also had plenty of time to wander into Chichester, a wonderful Georgian city. Some members took the time to visit the Cathedral, famous for both its modern and medieval art; the Pallant House Museum which has a major collection of modern British Art; and of course the many shops and restaurants. All agreed it was an excellent day out.
